Türkiye’s first licensed Wind Power Plant with Energy Storage has been commissioned at Polat Enerji’s Ege Wind Power Plant site in İzmir, built and brought online through the products, engineering, and technology solutions provided by SolarToday Türkiye and iNOVAT. With the completion of the on-site tests conducted by the Ministry, the official acceptance process has also been successfully finalized.
In January 2025, the three companies signed a cooperation agreement to enable a capacity increase at Polat Enerji’s Ege Wind Power Plant, which has an installed capacity of 15.2 MWm, through the implementation of a licensed Wind Power Plant with Energy Storage (DRES) model. The project stands out as the first licensed, first officially approved, first to benefit from investment incentives, and first accepted licensed Wind Power Plant with Energy Storage (DRES) in Türkiye.
The 15.17 MWh energy storage system has been designed to operate in an integrated structure with CATL batteries, Power Electronics PCS, and the PowerKonnekt Energy Management System (EMS). Product supply for the energy storage unit was carried out by SolarToday Türkiye, while iNOVAT was responsible for the turnkey integration, commissioning, and the installation of the PowerKonnekt EMS. In addition, second-phase works are continuing uninterrupted, aiming to increase the battery capacity of the project to 28.16 MWh in total.
By combining globally proven battery technology and power conversion systems (PCS) with the PowerKonnekt EMS and advanced engineering solutions, the project marks the beginning of a new era in energy storage infrastructure. The system will enable wind-generated electricity to be stored and transferred to the grid when needed, manage production intermittency, and maximize the revenue of the energy storage system through trade and optimization capabilities. While optimizing wind energy generation, the project will also make a significant contribution to the stability of Türkiye’s electricity grid, further underlining the critical role of Battery Energy Storage Systems in enabling renewable energy capacity expansion.
Commenting on the milestone, Evren Güvenç, General Manager of Polat Enerji, emphasized that Polat Enerji continues its vision of being a leader both in renewable power generation and in energy storage. Stating that they chose to cooperate with SolarToday Türkiye and iNOVAT for the storage-based capacity increase project at Ege WPP, Güvenç said that the project’s “first-of-its-kind” status in Türkiye is a special source of pride. He added: “With this strategic project, we aim to build a success story that will serve as an example not only in Türkiye but also in the European market. Through the initiatives we will implement in the upcoming period, we will further strengthen our pioneering position.”

Mario Dalsarfati, CEO of SolarToday Türkiye, which supplied the products for Türkiye’s first Wind Power Plant with Energy Storage, stated: “We have been active in 25 countries across Europe for nearly 15 years. Today, we are proud to announce that we have successfully delivered a project that makes Türkiye proud, following the completion of all supply, installation, and testing processes. As SolarToday, we will continue contributing to Türkiye’s installed energy storage capacity at the highest level possible.”
Doğa Can Bayram, Managing Partner of iNOVAT, who is also the President of the Energy Storage Industrialists Association (EDEDER), noted that they have recently intensified their efforts toward the goal of “making Türkiye a regional hub in battery technologies.” He underlined that this project represents a tangible starting point for Türkiye to achieve this goal. Bayram stated that they are making strong efforts to support the development and expansion of the energy storage ecosystem and sector, emphasizing that Türkiye has the capacity to provide internationally aligned services across a broad range—spanning product supply, engineering, advanced technologies, software, and energy management systems. Bayram concluded: “As Türkiye, we should strengthen our strengths even further and make our country a true regional hub for batteries. We are pleased to have implemented the first of the long-awaited storage projects in Türkiye.”
About Polat Enerji
Polat Enerji, one of Türkiye’s leading energy companies, was established in 2000 with sustainability as a core principle. The company contributes to clean energy generation through five wind power plants, including one hybrid solar installation, and holds the title of Türkiye’s leading wind power plant investor. With its Soma, Geycek, Göktepe, Poyraz, and Ege wind power plants, Polat Enerji remains a pioneer in renewable energy investments.
In 2024, Polat Enerji transitioned into a multinational structure and established Polat Energy Europe. Together with five solar power plants operating in Hungary, the company now manages a total of 10 power plants with an installed capacity of 1,060 MW. Through its operations, Polat Enerji generates approximately 2.3 billion kWh of electricity annually, corresponding to the equivalent of planting 55 million trees and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 1.3 million tons.
Polat Enerji is committed to maintaining sector leadership in sustainable energy production while operating with respect for the environment and with a strong focus on occupational health and safety. One of its wind power plants, Soma WPP, also stands out as Türkiye’s largest wind power plant. Beyond its energy operations, Polat Enerji plays an active role in environmental and social responsibility initiatives.
